Detox Day 8: For Desperado Tryouts

In case you are still wondering, I am still planning on trying out for the Dallas Desperados in September/October. I’ve been working out more, but man, my foot is killing me this morning. It is just not getting better. I have to go to the doctor, now the pain has started to climb up my leg, I think that is because I went for a walk yesterday and not walking properly on your feet causes problems in other parts of your leg. Ugh!!! It is so frustrating. I just don’t like injuries, I can’t tolerate them, especially when I have a goal and when I feel like this injury could have been avoided.

Current Weight: 338 (14.2 total pounds lost in 1 week, feeling like this is a legit 14.2 now since I haven’r really lost any these last 3 days.)
Breakfast: Decaf coffee
Lunch: Large spinach salad with onions, carrots, hummus, olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
Dinner: pinto beans and guacamole – not sure if guac is allowed, but I ate it anyway. it and the hummus are tiny splurges that I rarely do.

I plan to buckled down on this week and lose another 15 pounds, and I’m going to do Yoga hurt foot and all – unless the doctor says no.

Detox Day 7: For Mud Volleyball

I know what you are thinking… “Why would he say for mud volleyball?” Well, it’s actually for any sport where I want to take my shirt off. Last July when I went to see my cousin Chanc in Oklahoma we played Mud Volleyball and while there were  a lot of people out of shape, there were also a lot of people in shape. I want to be one of those people and this year the tournament falls on July 26th. I’ve gone my whole life being ashamed to take my shirt off in public. I’ve done it, but it wasn’t pretty. I don’t mind being a little chubby, I make a little chubby look hot, but I there is a line between “husky” and just plain fat. I know that I am breaking one of my rules here by pointing out my fatness, this is something you shouldn’t do… unless you are on a 21 day detox that is supposed to make you leaner and healthier.

Yesterday I did nothing but hang out at the house. I had a meeting with a client that morning and I had an orange juice and a banana at a coffee shop. Later that day I had beans, squash, watermelon, and pineapple and a small spinach salad with chickpeas, red peppers and balsamic vinegar and onions. I should have eaten more veggies as I am supposed to be eating them at a 2:1 ration. 2 veggies for every one fruit, but I have been sort of backward on that because fruit is so much more convenient to eat.

Current Weight: 338.4 (Surprised that I haven’t lost more, still not “going” like I should)
Breakfast: Banana and Orange Juice – not the best options for the glycemic index
Lunch: zucchini and pinto beans
Dinner: Pineapple – small spinach salad

Detox Day 6: Because I Need Options

There are days when I am sitting my my cell cubicle at work and I wish that I could be doing something else. I often dream of working for a large church in their graphic and communications department. Then there are times when I think it would be cool to work for a church camp full time or a college campus. In each of these dreams I am in good shape. My shirt is tucked in and I am a buff 280 instead of a big 350. I always imagine the interview and I’ve got my shirt tucked in and I’m looking like someone who is in shape and takes care of themself, someone that I would want to hire. It is amazing how much I let my appearance limit me. How I look each day affects my entire mood. It’s like that favorite pair of jeans you have, if you could wear them 365 days a year you would be comfortable and happy – but you can’t. Eventually clothes wear out and what it comes down to is the most basic of clothes look great when you are in shape. I know, I used to weigh 218.

Yesterday I probably consumed more calories than I have all week combined. So I gained back a little weight, but I expected it. I’m also still not going to the bathroom as much as I would like.

Current Weight: 339 (I ate a lot of veggies and fruit yesterday and drank a large strawberry apple juice)
Breakfast: Pineapple and Carrots
Lunch: Vegetarian stuffed bell pepper and black beans covered with salsa.
Dinner: Squash and Pinto Beans

Detox Day 4: For Ultimate Frisbee

Last night I sat on the couch eating a plate of beans and squash and zucchini. It was pretty tasty because I found out that on this diet you can eat sea salt. What is the difference between regular salt and sea salt? I haven’t a clue, but it made all the difference in the world in the taste of my food.

My Dr. Natura Colon cleansing products came in as well. I mixed half a scoop of this very gritty concoction into a glass of water and drank it down quickly. It tastes like licorice only worse and within an hour my stomach started rumbling. Throughout this process I’ve been surprised that I’ve been regular. I’ve eaten so much less that I go less, but it wasn’t until last night after drinking this fiber powder that my body said, “Um, hey, we need to get this crap out of here immediately.” And it did.

Today I am doing this detox for Ultimate Frisbee. Every week when I play I am upset because someone beat me by a half-step, a half-step that would not have happened if I was 50 pounds lighter. I think at 300 I would be a force to be reckoned with. Wait, I already am a force to be reckoned with, I’d be one step above that at 300.

Current Weight: 340 (12.2 total pounds lost)
Breakfast: Pineapple
Lunch: Watermelon, 32oz freshly juiced Carrot and Apple Juice
Dinner: Beans and Zucchini

Detox Day 3: For My Wallet

It’s day three and I’m still feeling pretty good. I’ve had a mild headache almost consistently, but surprisingly I haven’t had any serious cravings.

I’ve been eating a lot of carrots and yesterday I had a bowl of pinto beans for lunch. Then around 3:00 p.m. I had a carrot, celery, beet, spinach juice and a carrot juice. 32 ounces of vegetable juice and I was feeling pretty good. I skipped dinner and drank lots of water. I just wasn’t hungry. Erin and I went to Barnes and Noble and then we came back to my house and watched American Idol. I like to keep busy when on a diet or else you get tempted when you get bored.

Part of the reason for doing this detox is to lose weight quickly. After not losing weight even though i was trying to follow the guidelines in “The Abs Diet” I knew I had to do something drastic. Some people say that your body will hold on to fat because it is toxic and that is why a detox works. Also, when you are eating less than 1200 calories a day then you are bound to lose some pounds.

I plan to increase my caloric intake today and do some work in the yard and garage and so I will need the extra carbs.

I’m doing this for my wallet because I have 7 pair of dress pants that don’t fit me. I could go out and buy some more, but what would be the point? My pants cost close to 100 dollars a pair. I buy these cashmere/wool dress pants from the big and tall store. They look nice, but they are expensive.  Anyway, I have 3 pair that I bought and I have never been able to wear because they were too tight. I don’t know if they picked up the wrong ones when the store sent them to the tailor if if somehow in the 3 days it took for me to pick them up I put on 10 pounds. Who knows, all I know is that I spent 300 bucks on pants I’ve never gotten to wear. I need to get down to 330 or so before they will fit.

Current Weight: 342.2 (exactly 10 pounds since day 1, still mostly water weight I’m sure)
Breakfast: Carrots and water
Lunch: Bean and Potatoes
Dinner: Broccoli and Corn
