House + Keys = Happiness

My sister now has my house keys and even though I won’t get those keys until Thursday, I know that the house is MINE! Stress is mostly gone but it won’t be all gone until I get my stuff moved in and out of my dad’s place – then I will actually have a bed to sleep on and a couch to sit on and I’ll have all my clothes in one place and my own refrigerator and washer and dryer.

It really is the little things in life that count, but every now and again, one really, really big thing is nice too.

I’m a homeowner! Sort of…

Well, I closed today on my house. I signed all the paperwork – tons and tons of paperwork. However, I don’t have any keys and I am now in a hotel in Westlake and I didn’t get to even go and take a look in my house on the day I closed on it. Yuck. They don’t tell you that when you close on a house that all the paperwork has to be faxed to the mortgage company from the title company and then some magic must happen before they will turn over your keys! Ugh. All that build up, the excitement and then the let down. I am sure that once I have my keys in hand it will feel more real, but at this moment it just feels the same. Like I’m still waiting to get my house when in actuality I already have it… except for one tiny thing. My sister, who is my realtor, called me and said that there was a misunderstanding between the mortgage company and the title company and so she can’t go and pick up my keys until the morning. This is not something that you want to hear after you’ve just signed your life away for 30 years. I mean, from this point on I’ll probably always have a mortgage – unless I win the lotto.

Now as I type this in my very cozy room I want nothing more than to take a power nap, but I can’t, I’ve got work to do. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy… but work pays the mortgage.

House Buying is HARD

This has been a very complicated, very extreme experience. The house needed some repairs and they had to be done before the closing on Monday. These repairs weren’t mentioned until the appraisal was done on Tuesday and so with less than a week to close and with a Holiday tossed in for good measure and the seller is in Sweden – the likelihood of me closing on Monday seemed like a pretty slim chance. However, the seller apparently contacted a contractor and I went by today and they are working on the house repairs and so maybe, just maybe, they’ll get everything done and I’ll have a house on Monday.

People, do not underestimate the signifigance of this. I’m currently homeless living in the Cribbies house in Krum. 80% of my stuff has been packed away at my real dad’s house for 6 weeks. I’ve been living out of a suitcase and driving long-distance to work and I’ve been waiting with bated-breath for this deal to go through and now it almost has. I’m so close, I really hope all goes well on Monday and that I sign the papers and have the keys to my house.

So that’s really why I haven’t posted much lately. I’ve been busy working and planning things and calling insurance companies and paying bills and pretty much doing everything I can to get this house thing done on time. It’s much harder than anyone ever let on.

The House – Failed with a big ol’ F%(@$

The guy that did the inspection on my house was more than forthcoming, he pretty much told me “DO NOT BUY THIS HOUSE”. Which was not something I wanted to hear especially since that whole affair cost me 350 bucks! House shopping is expensive and now I am back looking in Plano at houses that are cheaper and that will probably pass inspection on the first go round, that way I’m not out another 350 duckets.

So it’s back to the drawing board…

Oh, and I went and looked at brand new houses today as well, however, if you want to live in Plano and you want to buy a new house you might as well have at least 200,000 to pony up or else you are living in a town home and that is one of my cardinal rules – NO TOWNHOMES! I just don’t want to be attached to someone else’s house, not after the whole apartment debacle of 2006-2007.
