Skin Game
I graduated from Texas Women's University(195 men 4000 women) and at TWU I found that women tended to still dress scantily even when there were very few men around to admire them.
I have also been told by some girls that other girls showed off their goodies to compete with other women. Sort of like "The Plastics" on Mean Girls.
Ex: If Jenny can wear a tight black mini and fishnet hose, then I can too, AND I am going to wear this top that looks like lingerie.
What do you ladies think? Do you ever wear something that shows off your kibbles and bits just to outdo your female neighbors? Or do you do it just for us men?

Yay, you posted it! Okay, here are my thoughts, as Eddo already knows.
In my personal experience, I have only ever seen women dress a certain way for men. Men have always been the bottom line. They want their attention!
I have never really seen women dressing scantily solely for competition purposes- except for my friend who was in the Hooters contest- but still, who were the judges? In the end, it was all about the men.
good question eddo. i think both points have validity. speaking from personal experience, i can say this:
i used to dress that way before i was a believer. and when i used to spend 3 hours a day in the gym.
my girlfriends and i would actually have CONTESTS on nights that we would go clubbing to see who could wear the LEAST amount of clothes.
scary, right?
we obviously did it for the guys, to attract some attention.
but it was also directed at the girls. kind of a silent statement, "Don't even think about going near him. I've got this in the bag."
It's true that women often dress up "for other women" because many of us are competitive by nature. we want to look put together, "ready," and sexy, just to show the others that they can't compete. and if they do compete, they're losing.
unfortunately, this still goes on. but i think that since i've become a Christian, i don't care about that stuff anymore.
i want to look good for my husband and for myself, but not because i'm competing for anything.
you know, i just realized that the root of the issue is insecurity.
interesting.
I am NOT insecure. Take that back.
I went to an all womens college my freshman year (Mills in Oakland) and I can honestly say that most of the women dressed very casually and didn't care what the other women thought. Until there were men around.
There was this one girl in my english class that was beautiful and you knew which days she had to go to work right after class because she came with her hair in curlers. Non-work days she hadn't even showered. There is no way she would have ever done that in a co-ed class.
On the other hand, when women go out looking to hook up they are dressing to attract a man but also repel other women. My friends and I have had this conversation repeatedly. When a woman walks into a bar and starts scoping it out she is first checking out the competition and then checking for prospects. In that order.
I think women show off their bodies for the men...because sometimes girls find their worth in men's approvals. I'll admit I'll show my legs off if I go dance - not for "don't you think I'm sexy" reasons - but more like - look I can move.
haha - I want to erase that but Im not going to.
I think women show off their clothes (being expensive, brands etc) to women to show they are elite if you will.
shoot - i'm just happy to have clean and dry cleaned clothes these days.
I'm still trying to deal withe the phrase "kibbles and bits". Eddie. . . .
On the topic at hand, I think it goes both ways. Girls like to dress in such a way to get attention. Attention from guys is prime but we'll take it from girls also. Both give us a feeling of self worth.
The guys make us feel pretty and appreciated for our bodies and the girls make us feel powerful and that we are better than them.
Either way it is all just to make up for what we don't feel on our own. Sad as that is.
LOL, cute post Eddo. Well I think that girls pretty much dress the way they do for men. It seems like sometimes women will just try to outdo each other, but usually there's a guy behind it, and they want his attention. What's sad is girls are really competitive, and they usually compete the hardest with their own friends!
But a lot of guys usually are into girls for all different kinds of reasons. Yes, how one dresses is what they see first, but I've known some guys who said they were attracted to a girl simply by the "aura" they gave. Just a feeling about them I guess.
On another note, I hate it when girls dress way to skanky to someplace formal- like a wedding or something! LOL At my brother's wedding, one of his friends brought a date who barely wore anything! It looked wrong, and she's in some of the wedding video too.
Kibbles and bits!?! sigh. Well, I will tell you that prior to my becoming a believer, I too, dressed that way for men. To be completely honest, if my girlfriends and I hadn't recived some kind of attention (be it good or bad I suppose), the evening was a bust. HOW SAD IS THAT?!
But yes, for the majority, it was for the men. I would say a small part of it was competition only because I didn't want to go out looking like Raggedy-Anne next to my sparkly half-naked counterpart. But that was the closest I ever got to "dressing for a woman". Sound like the girls at your school had a few internal issues that needed dealing with.
In other words, Faith was right. Gimme some props, Eddo.
Yep, Faith, you were right!
Personally, I don't dress for anyone but me, never have....and for the most part I don't notice alot about how other people dress around me, so, it's definitely not competition for me. Don't get me wrong, I love to dress nice, but conservative, my momma raised me that way I guess.
Now, I notice if someone is wearing something over the top, and I'll comment, but I'm much more likely to notice a personality, eyes, smile, stuff like that.
I notice my comment on this is a lot different than these other girls....maybe I'm just weird.
