Erin and I went with Roger and Jes last night to PF Changs and then to see Baby Mama. I enjoyed the movie, but I enjoyed spending time with Roger and Jes more. They recently bought a house and they’ve been confined to a strict budget and working every spare minute on their remodeling project. I’ve been very impressed with them, but even more I’m really excited that they live so close by and now we can just do stuff during the middle of the week spontaneously and how cool is that?

I’ve noticed that as i get older I really MUST have a routine. Who would have ever thought it? But it’s true. I plan things way out in advance, I schedule and I mentally prepare and then when it comes time to do things I do them well. However, spontaneous stuff with the right people can be fun and non-stressful and that is what makes it so great to be close to R&J.

Baby Mama was pretty funny and Erin and I were cackling loudly at different times. I’m actually quite aware of the fact that both of us are loud laughers. This could be a dangerous combo. But if we do end up getting married and she laughs real loud and someone says, “Who dat is?” I’ll respond with, “That’s Just My Baby Mama, Thas jus my baby Mama…”

88 minutes was pretty good. When Erin and I arrived there were already quite a few people in the theater. 25 minutes early, munching on popcorn I noticed that we were surrounded by septuagenarians. I told Erin, “Have you noticed that we are surrounded by old people? We are the youngest people in here.” People continued to walk in and we were watching for my roommate and his girlfriend. I expected him to be late as that is his m.o. but that only made me more aware of the fact that everyone entering the theater was old.

Finally, a young black couple sat down beside us. I decided that our row would be the young hip row.

The movie started and still no sign of my roommate or his girl. About 7 minutes into the movie they show up. I use my phone to alert them to where we are sitting. I had a feeling he wouldn’t make it at all. He has a history of having random things happen to him. Once I had to pick him up from a phone store because his ex-girlfriend’s dad had pulled a knife on him. He’s been in jail a couple of times for unpaid traffic tickets and I won’t let him use my lawn mower or wash dishes because I am afraid he will break them. If I had to write his six word memoir it would read: Blissfully Ignorant. Dangerously Clumsy. Spent Much.

Erin and I had more fun before the movie than I think we did while watching the movie. We have a surprising number of things in common. We love the same movies, we both love to dance and sing karaoke and - this one surprised me, we both own and salivate over, the Michael Jackson “History” DVD. “We should have a Michael Jackson night and dress up and watch his videos” Erin said. “I could be Michael and you could be Janet!” I replied without missing a beat. I then went on as to how we could get afro’s and dress in 70’s clothes.

So far things are going great. The true test of this relationship will be her cooking abilities, whether or not she bakes a good chocolate chip cookie, and if she enjoys watching Food Network. But in reality, what is most important to me is that she likes me for me. I’ve never dated a girl that “gets” me and my humor the way Erin gets me. She laughs easily at my jokes and even when I’m not making jokes. And, she doesn’t fence me in or expect “quality time”. She understands that any time with me is “quality time”. (Take a note people. haha.)

88 Minutes is pretty good, a little gory and disturbing. Picture girls tied upside down hanging from the ceiling being tortured and screaming. It’s gruesome, but it keeps you guessing.

What do you think about that new Jackie Chan - Jet Li movie that also comes out today? Cheesefest or thrill ride?

I was actually delighted to see Owen Wilson in a movie, especially a fun movie, after his recent suicide attempt. He always plays this same role, but you can’t help but love him.

I give the movie 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I’m up at 1 a.m. so it is now Saturday morning and I am still converting those 77 VHS tapes which it turns out the majority of them are over 2 hours long. So while I am working I watched some On-Demand movies and August Rush was one that I wanted to see.

It’s a good movie, but I had to fast forward through parts of it because it just took to long to get to the end. There was all this build up and the story was a little disconnected and so you kept hoping that things would get a move on.

The music is fantastic, but that’s about it. If you want to save your money just download the soundtrack and then you can enjoy it over and over.

On Friday night Katie, Roger and Jes came over to my house for dinner and games. Jes wanted to make a Shepherd’s Pie and I wanted to eat a Shepherd’s Pie and so it was a done deal. We gathered at my house and while we were playing Settlers of Catan I told Jes she needed to “Back Up OUT MY FACE!” She immediately tried to repeat my ghetto phrase but she said, “Back up out of my face.” Which as you may notice has the word “of” in it and totally takes away the whole “Street” feel to it. Then I told her, “Man, yo bref is stank!” and she said, “Man, your breath is stank!” I had to reiterate here that the word is “Bref” not “Breath”. It was like I was teaching them Sanskrit or Gaelic, not Ebonics. Katie jumped in and started saying the same phrases like a proper WASPy white woman. It was hilarious and I guess you really needed to be there and you should have been there because we had PLENTY of food.

On Saturday while watching SNL they had just a quick screenshot of Food Network’s logo with the sub-title “Porn for Fat People”. I laughed until I almost burst. I love Food Network. Your mouth just waters as you watch Paula Deen slip a big stick of butter into a sizzling pan. Throw down with Bobby Flay followed by 30 Minute Meals with Rachel Ray is just “Yummo” and we can’t forget the Barefoot Contessa who is somehow calming and alluring when she talks about fresh Rosemary and Thyme.

One of my favorite past times is waking up at the Miller’s house in Denton and then having his mom cook us breakfast and then watching Food Network until noon. I still go over sometimes and we do this and it is wonderful. It’s like this miniature piece of heaven covered in some delicious gravy. (Man, I am getting Hungry!)

Tina Fey hosted SNL and Steve Martin made a guest appearance as they opened the show and it was hilarious. Later Carrie Underwood performed two songs and I couldh’t help but think that she is almost too amazing. Too pretty. Too perfect. I think I’d like her just a little bit more if she was a little more damaged like Brittany or Lindsey - NOT!

On the movie scene I checked out Jumper and Step Up 2 over the weekend and I was only marginally impressed with either. Jumper was cool, but it left me wanting a little more. There were some serious delays and there were times when I just wanted them to get on with it. Step Up 2, however, was just what I expected. A lame plot with some excellent dancing. The kids on this sequel will not disappoint. They are funny and they can dance.

I tried to watch the Oscars last night, but what a snore fest. I need to go see who won…

Do not, DO NOT waste a dime on Strange Wilderness. I thought Superbad was bad because it was gross and stupid, however, I thought UHF was Golden Globe worthy compared to Strange Wilderness and Superbad was a feel good movie you would want to watch with mom and dad.

I couldn’t believe that Adam Sander produced this total crap. I’d like to start over with this review and try to better explain how horrifically stupid this movie was… but I don’t think I could find the words.

Mad Money on the other hand was good. It was fun and interesting and sweet. It was a little formulaic, but hey, I like formula… it works. I also loved the cast. Don’t go see it at the theater, but definitely rent it and watch it with a big bucket of caramel popcorn. If you don’t know how to make a good caramel popcorn - ask Jes - her’s totally rocks!

I went and saw this movie on Sunday and really enjoyed it, however, I was expecting just a little more. At times it was slow and the ending was a little anti-climactic. There is also a lot of CGI and it was very obvious with some of the deer and the zombie creature people things. So I recommend renting this movie even though I think it has a brilliant moral - Light up the darkness.

No Country for Old Men

For part of the movie I was on the edge of my seat, but at the end I was literally annoyed - wait, I said, “the end” which would be a misnomer because there really isn’t an end in this movie. Nothing is wrapped up nicely and packaged with a pretty bow the way we want it to be. The acting is brilliant, the story line is cool, but why in the world didn’t they write an ending? I say rent it, but know the end will disappoint.

Enchanted

I actually really enjoyed this romantic comedy. I mean who doesn’t love Patrick Dempsey? He’s good looking, but he isn’t arrogant, he’s likeable and vulnerable. And who is that delightful red head? She’s effervescent and fresh. I want to marry her, she enchanted me. Go see this movie with someone you love, or someone you’d like to fall in love with you.
